Seriously now! I am back at it! Hockey is done for now and I have my life back!!!!!!! I have been a total slug since I got off work today and I've been reading and catching up on blogs for over an hour! My kids were fried from the weekend so they got to bed at 8:00. I was working all day and Joe was home and when I walked in the door from work my house was freakin' immaculate!! He cleaned EVERYTHING! Honestly, a 4 carat diamond couldn't have made me happier! Mondays have been very stressful always getting in late Sunday from traveling and heading to work and school in the morning.
Here's my random crap since last post:
Went to Monticello and St. Cloud for the MN Select Hockey tournament over the weekend. Ryan was chosen to play on the North team and she played awesome! The weekend was a lot of fun getting a chance to meet families from other towns! It is so fun for her to play with different girls and make new friends! I was on a mission to find a dress for myself for my mother-in-law's wedding in 2 weeks. Spent 3 hours looking. I swear I see a million things I want until I'm actually looking for them. Didn't help that I decided to wear my super cute new cowboy boots that I can't get off by myself. Every time I would go in a fitting room I had to bring Ryan with me so she could pull these stupid things off. Seriously, the security people watching the fitting rooms got quite the freak show!! Anyway, finally found a dress that I LOVED, bought it and too make a long story short, now can't find it! I've searched all the suitcases, called the hotel, searched the car, NO DRESS!! I am SO mad!
Got my Boston packet in the mail. Bib #10274-Wave1-Corral 10. Holy crap- 3 weeks. I am excited because my sister is in the same corral as me and at least I will have someone to hang out with before the race! We are very different runners and I'm not sure exactly where her training is at. She could be 10 minutes ahead, she could be 10 minutes behind so we likely won't be running together. We are however, running together tomorrow night for the first time since last September! Should be fun!
To the running! Just finished my first ever 70 mile week-66 of it outside which is a good confidence builder for me since I panic over all the treadmill running I've done sometimes. Here's the rundown:
Monday- 10.6 miles/7:40 with 6@7:15
Tuesday-11 miles/7:44. Mile 1 was slow and mile 9 I met some friends walking and started to walk and visit for a bit (9:25). Didn't stop the Garmin so average pace for the other 9 miles was 7:30 or so.
Wednesday-2 miles/7:24
Thursday 22.43 miles/7:58. It was fairly cold (9 degrees) to start but this was a really good run. I felt strong the whole way through and not fried at the end.
Friday-5 miles/8:01 in Monticello. VERY windy! Was trying to run at recovery pace but so excited to be somewhere new!
Saturday- 10 miles/7:48 with Joe. We brought up the pace in the middle 4 miles and just enjoyed the rest. I LOVE BIKE PATHS! I am so tired of running on the road and super prick drivers!!!!
Sunday- AM-6 miles/8:16 PM-4 miles on the treadmill at home/7:58. Totally ran the 4 miles just to hit 70. JUNK miles yes, but rewarding just the same.
Managed the 30 day shred twice and a basic ab workout most days. Today was an off day and I'm totally relishing it! I will run one more 20 miler either Thursday, or Friday depending on the weather and then cut back!
Tomorrow night running with my sister, Wednesday night-my daughter Ryan's 12th birthday, Thursday night-hockey banquet, Friday night- it is one of my good friend's birthdays and 5 of us girls are heading to Rock Harbor Lodge in the evening. Should be a lot of fun since we've hardly seen each other with all the hockey travel (4 of us have kids in hockey). Saturday night-my niece Libby's birthday party, Sunday-Easter with the fam!! I guess my life is still pretty busy!!
I would upload some pics but I just bought a new camera and can't figure out how to load the software! Anyway-back to catching up! Have a good one!!

Kinda back at it!
So- I am way way way behind on blog reading and posting! I've spent more time in hotels than in my own house the last three weeks and it won't end until after this weekend! Then I'll be back in full force an you'll all be sick of me!!
Anyway-here's what's new!
Rode on a charter bus to Minneapolis with 56 people for Ryan's state hockey tournament. I hate buses, I hate not having my own space, and I hate not having a vehicle. That being said, it was worth it as Ryan had an absolute blast. Firetrucks and the Police Department escorted us out of town and cars were lined up on the side of the road cheering as we drove by. I practically shed a tear over this as the support in this little town is AMAZING!!
Thursday night, they had a big banquet at the Hyatt in Minneapolis for the 8 teams and their families. It was SO nice and the kids loved getting dressed up! Sometimes I look at Ryan and can't believe how fast time flies. She is so grown up! One of the girls on the team has a brother on the high school boys team which is pretty much like the NHL to Max and he offered to keep Max back at the hotel to swim. What a great kid-17 years old and wanting to babysit my son! Max thinks he's the bomb so this was the perfect situation!

First game, the kids take the ice and Ryan's coach comes in the stands and informs me that she doesn't have her hockey gloves. AHHH-this was totally my fault. She always packs her own bag but I dumped it to wash and organize everything and forgot to put them back in! My heart sunk. The coach took the gloves off a 3rd line player and gave them to Ryan for warmups! This poor other girl had to miss warming up at the state tournament which was likely the only time she would see the ice! I instantly started crying and practically had a nervous breakdown in the stands. Didn't help that the girl's parents were IRATE at the situation. We lost the first game-outshot the other team 42-24 but lost-we were projected to win the whole thing. Ryan was absolutely devastated. She literally would not talk or eat the rest of the day. I ended up lying on the bed with her for 2 hours listening to her sob and wondering how any 11 year old kid could take a game this seriously. In all, a very emotional day.
I managed to run on Friday night at 10 pm at the hotel fitness center while all the other parents were getting trashed in the bar! I got a whole lot of crap for this! Anyway, 10 miles done.
Ive decided to quit recapping this weekend because I'm quite certain no one cares about a 12 year old hockey tournament. I'll suffice by saying I planned to run 20 miles around the lakes in Minneapolis on Saturday and ended up running 7 down American Blvd. in Bloomington due to no time and a bus that controlled every minute of my day. This capped off the crappiest week of running I've had in a long time. Finished with 37 miles and only one decent run.
I just started catching up a bit and saw Julie did GREAT at the 7K, Running and Living absolutely kicked *ss in her half. I will NEVER be that fast and Jill conquered the lung fungus to also run a great half! Many more to catch up on!
This is a new week and I'm gonna kick it in the butt and try to pull out a good week although I am once again leaving for Monticello and St. Cloud on Thursday for another weekend of hockey! Ryan is on the MN Select North team. Should be a fun weekend to watch as the 4 teams (north, east, west, south) are all invited players and the talent level is very high. This is the 3rd year she has played in this tournament. One of my friends has a daughter who is also playing (different level) and we've had a blast each year. One of the highlights is checking out the Edina moms! (wealthy Twin Cities Suburb) I'm quite certain these women are all filthy rich-very nice but FILTHY rich! Great hair and awesome clothes-not jealous at all!!
Monday- 10 miles/7:40 (6@7:15) 30 day shred
Tuesday-11 miles/7:44-potentially 30 day shred if I get off the computer!!
Have a great night and I'll be catching up soon!!

Back to the Random!
So- it's been awhile since I did a random nothing post so here goes!
Reese made a book about her family in school and she brought it home today! Very cute! I about died when I read it!!!! Seriously, these are some of the things she wrote!
"My mom's favorite food is wine and cheese!"
"My mom likes to talk on the computer"
"My Dad likes to lift weights"
"My Dad's favorite food is green beans"
OMG-I feel like I need to write my own book and send it back to her teacher.
"I,(Reese's mom), do like wine and cheese but it is not my favorite and I don't know where she got this"
"I, (Reese's mom), only go on the computer in the morning before work when Reese is sleeping and I rarely go back on until she is in bed! Also, just to clear any confusion I, (Reese's mom) am not carrying on an internet love affair and I don't TALK on the computer!"
"Joe, (Reese's dad) drinks more wine than me"
"Joe, (Reese's dad) does like to lift weights but I'm the one who runs 60 miles a week!"
Kids are so humbling! One other famous quote. "When I grow up I want to be a Dairy Queen worker." Yes, we encourage our kids to reach for the stars!!!!

It was 54 degrees when I got done with work today! UNBELIEVABLE! I LOVE spring although I'm sure this is just a tease and we will have a foot of snow next week.
Joe, me and all 3 kids board a charter bus with her entire team and families at 8 am. Thursday morning to head to MSP for Ryan's state hockey tournament. She has a banquet in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday night! I am so excited about this trip. She started hockey way late for kids up here but begged for us to let her play. She is the youngest and without a doubt the hardest worker on her team! I am SO proud of her and so excited for her to have this opportunity.
Someone got a hold of my credit card #. I got an email saying that a transaction was declined because the credit card company believed it was unauthorized. I had to respond and yes it was unauthorized. Fortunately I could cancel the card and nothing went through. This is the second time someone has got a hold of our cards. My Visa Check card- $2300 worth of unauthorized transactions and I still had the card in my wallet! Scary!
I am getting very excited for April 20th when my vacation begins!!
One of my friends is having one of those traveling wine parties tomorrow night. I was going to go but now that I'm up for Mother of the Year maybe not!! Ha!
OK- Reese just came out to use the bathroom and I'm talking on the computer-SH*T!!
Anyway, did run tonight in the beautiful 54 degree weather and it totally reminded me of why I started running in the first place! Awesome! Good night all!

100% Irish 10 mile RR
So-I've been a little absent lately. March for me is like April for accountants. Hockey is taking over my life! Soon to be done however, and then instead of sending my kids off to the rink in the evening I will likely have to play a million games of Skipbo and Farkle! Life will be very different for me in so many aspects in 5 short weeks:)
Anyhoo, in the midst of my hockey travel I ran a 10 mile race this weekend! This was my first ever 10 mile so a guaranteed PR. This was also my first race since October! I struggled deciding what I was going to do about this. Option #1- taper up and run the best 10 mile I physically could. This sounds delightful however the repercussions of resting might be detrimental to my crazy brain if I reduced my mileage drastically at this point in training. On the other hand a great time may be a great confidence builder. Option #2- don't reduce the mileage and still go out and run the best 10 mile I physically could. It would still be guaranteed to be faster than I could run outside of race conditions. Problem with this option is if I didn't do as well as I would like, I may lose a ton of confidence. Weighed them both and chose Option #2. Yes, I have issues!!!!!
TC 100% Irish for a Day 10 mile
time: 1:12:56
pace: 7:18
overall place: 99 out of 779
division place: 5 out of 93
gender place: 13 out of 411
Here's the rundown!!
Woke up to a six year old boy's feet kicking me in the face! For once, we were all traveling together and as I am entirely too cheap to get adjoining rooms Max ends up in bed with Joe and I. He is a monster and impossible to sleep with. I considered moving a pillow and a blanket into the bathtub. Anyway, I got up, showered and went down to eat before I woke up the kids. I am never hungry in the morning as I generally down about 2 pots of coffee (slight exaggeration but not much) and eat 2 hours later. Very healthy, I know! Anyway, managed to eat something and headed back up to get ready. Looked out the window and saw the trees blowing pretty good and rain drizzling down. Temps were in the 40's which is downright tropical to me so I was OK with the situation.
I got all my crap on and attempted to stretch a little bit in my ridiculously cramped hotel room. I have too many kids! I decided to go with shorts since the pants I brought were not super fitted on the bottom and I was afraid they would get wet and I would trip on them (see last race report)!

Headed out with my three overjoyed children and Joe dropped me off fairly close to the start about 35 minutes before race time. I was wearing sweatpants over my shorts but no jacket because I thought they would have some sort of shelter to warm up in. WRONG! Turns out 17 mph winds make 40 degrees feel a lot colder and I was freakin' freezing standing outside waiting. I did meet a couple of super nice funny guys while I was waiting and one of them gave me a bright green shag blanket! Looked very Austin Powers and I was a little worried about what might be ON the blanket but I was seriously too cold to care!

OK- the poor guy in the gray tights and yellow shirt obviously doesn't have a wife to dress him! Not trying to be mean just feeling bad for the guy!
We made our way to the start about 5 minutes before the gun and I lined up about 10 seconds off the start. Right before the gun, I went to set my Garmin and saw the data from the previous days run on the training screen. I tried to reset it but the stupid thing was frozen. Gun went off and I didn't have time to shut the thing off and restart it. Decided this was not the end all be all and just started running. Now, normally when I start running in a race I almost dislike the feeling I have in my legs. They are like Jello and buzzing with adrenaline. Today, not so much! They felt tired and heavy. I kept telling myself they would warm up about mile 3 and to push through. Didn't help that we were running directly into the wind and I was close to the front so not too many people to hide behind. In fact, within a mile I was pretty much all by myself with the nearest runner at least 10 strides ahead of me.
There was a clock at mile one and I crossed in 7:30. I was hoping to be under 7:20 so I panicked for a second and then told myself to relax and pick it up a little bit. Things started getting better in mile 2. Water stop around mile 3 which I skipped and grabbed a drink from my kids who were spectating there! I had run the course on Thursday so I knew I was headed for a nice downhill right after mile 3. It was actually pretty steep and I had to remind myself how to run going down-way too much flat country up here!!

The world's best but also the world's boredest (is that a word?) specatators!!
It was not raining but the road had several areas that were completely submerged in water. I tried skipping around a bit but soon gave up and just plowed through. I was soaked!
About mile 4 after the hill I caught a runner with a Garmin and asked our pace. He said 7:02. I was feeling comfortable but again quickly panicked as I thought I might die about mile 8 and pulled up the reigns quite a bit. Came across the 5 mile and clock read 36:20. I was planning to take a gel about mile 5. Turns out there were only two water stops at 3 and 8 which I didn't know ahead of time. I really wish I would have brought my handheld because I ended up downing the gel at 5.5 and almost threw up because I had NO water! This didn't affect my running in the race but I had a stomachache for the rest of the day from this.
Kept trucking along and I was feeling alright. Knew my kids would be at mile 6 so I was looking forward to running by them. Also, excited to get the water that they forgot to hand me!! I think I was running fairly evenly but I was starting to feel a bit tired and was starting to think I was glad I was only running a 10 mile and not a half. Somewhere around mile 6 we merged with the 5K which is always fun as it was the back of the pack and required a lot of "polite" elbowing! Between mile 7 and 8 were a couple of real nice uphills that I could have done without. What goes up must come down however and I could relax on the downhills. Crossed the 9 mile mark and considered picking up the pace-also considered walking-Did neither-Ha! I crossed the finish line, saw my time on the finish clock and was glad to be done and happy enough with my time!

I had a free beer coupon on my bib and went to redeem it for my husband and they carded me! I'm 34-got a good laugh out of this one but-NO ID, NO beer! Had to hurry back to the hotel and had exactly 18 minutes to shower and get ready for the hockey game!!
Weekly running totals: 63 miles
Monday-skating which absolutely killed my quads and I can still feel them.
Tuesday-10 miles with 6X800's
Wednesday-11 miles @ 8:02
Thursday-9.6 miles on race course in pouring rain @ 8:15
Friday-2 miles @7:54
Saturday-10 mile race @ 7:18
Sunday-20 miles at 8:14. I was planning on running this 20 tomorrow after work but really wanted to get it out of the way and really didn't feel bad after yesterday's race. Still managed to stay right around my 8:12 goal pace.
Hope you all had great weekends! I've got a date with the computer to catch up after my hubby goes to work tonight!!

I am NOT a hockey player!!
So- it was my daughter Reese's (she is 9) last night of hockey tonight and as it turns out it has been tradition for the past 3 years that the mom's dress up in full hockey gear and play an actual game against these kids (10 and 11 year olds)! Reese is a first year player on this team so this was my first experience doing this. Anyway, I was leaving work and I got a text message from another mom saying we were having a pregame meeting at "Gene's" which is a local sports bar. Still in my scrubs I figured I better make an appearance-should have known better!! I arrived to what somehow informed me was a "Jag-Bomb" and was pretty much forced to drink the thing along with every other mom. Now, I'm not a big drinker and if I do drink it is almost never hard alcohol. Call it peer pressure but I downed the stupid thing and within 3 minutes my head was spinning. This thing was WICKED. I actually watched a couple of mom's down 4 of these things!! My God-let's all pretend it's our 21'st birthday before we play a game with our kids!! Fortunately, the rink is right across the street-no driving. I will say the term "liquid courage" holds some truth though!!
The locker room was hilarious. None of us could figure out how to get all the crap on and we were gagging from the nastiest smell of the equipment. (I'm actually considering amputating both of my hands since I cannot get rid of the smell from the hockey gloves). Hockey equipment is about the least flattering thing one could put on. Seriously, if you want to instantly gain 50 pounds put on a pair of hockey breezers. We were laughing so hard making fun of each other. Finally ready to go we made our appearance to seriously a full house. It was like practically the whole town showed up to watch this game. They matched us up on the ice with our kids! My first shift, Reese had 3 goals. I am TERRIBLE. Seriously, I am a good skater but these kids are so stinkin' fast and they totally mopped the floor with us. Turned out I had to play almost the whole game as half the moms were either too physically tired or too spun out to play. I was TIRED!! VERY VERY TIRED! It was a blast and Reese was smiling so big the whole time.

To the running. Since Thursday:
I managed to quit procrastinating and got my run in on Thursday. Unfortunately, I procrastinated so long I only had time to do one loop (5.6 miles) outside before I had to come home and be a mother so I had to finish my 10 miles on the treadmill.
5.6 outside at 43:20/7:43. 4.4 treadmill at 35:20/8:03.
Friday I was all alone during the day as Joe, Ryan, and Max were at Ryan's regional tournament and Reese was in school. I had 17 on the schedule and pulled it off although I felt absolutely terrible, drained, sluggish, and slow.
Average pace 8:06 but I had 2 fairly significant (over 2 minute) stops to try to cough all the crap out of my lungs and refuel. I stopped my Garmin during both stops. Anyway, I got it done.
Saturday, I took the day off and watched 3 hockey games. I made it to the gym in the afternoon and did no cardio but a lot of leg weights. I always neglect these and will probably continue to neglect them as I just simply don't care enough yet to be consistent with this strength training.
Sunday, Reese had her championship game in the District tournament. They lost and a lot of tears were shed! Ryan was playing at the same time 6 hours away in the Regional tournament trying to earn a trip to the state tournament. They won!! I would have loved to be there but opted to stay home with Reese which was totally worth it. I ended up back at the gym and was surprised I wasn't too sore from the weights so I did them again. Late afternoon I headed outside for an 8 mile in a balmy 36 degrees! It was so nice out. I did not feel very good in this run either and although I was maintaining the pace I was going for it did not feel as good as I thought it should have. 8 miles/7:41.
Finished the week with 58 miles, managed an ab routine most days and pulled off 2 days of weight training. One day I will actually commit to the cross training but I guess it won't be this training cycle.
Today, SUPER sore from the weights. My legs feel like tree trunks! No running-skating was plenty good enough and I'm sure I'll pay for this tomorrow during my tempo run!
I am tired, this is long, I need to get up early so I can read race reports about Disney!! Congrats to all those who ran this weekend! I will be catching up!

Procrastination 101
I'm totally procrastinating on running today. Also, procrastinating on folding laundry, packing suitcases, and cleaning. Instead, I'm updating this!
Since Monday:
Ran 10 miles on Tuesday at the gym. There was a seriously creepy guy there who would not stop talking to me while I was on the treadmill. I kept having to pull out my earphones to answer him. He spent at least 45 minutes alternating between the treadmill next to me and the elliptical on the other side of me. I was so short and almost rude in my responses and he still didn't get the drift! Yuck! I hope he doesn't become a regular. The run was OK-didn't feel too hot and not enough energy to do anything else but complete the run.
Got up at 5 am and did a morning 5 mile run before work. We were heading to the high school boys hockey section championship game in the evening and I knew I wouldn't have time then. I hate running back to back(night to morning) but I sure do love getting it out of the way! We won the game-back to the state tournament!! My kids were so excited especially Max. I swear he lost his voice from screaming-it was a close game!! Looks like our trip to the cities next weekend will now start Wednesday night and roll through Sunday! More packing...Ugh!!
Today I will run at some point-probably 10 miles and tomorrow will be my long run. I'm mixing up my plan(I know something new-ha!) and I will only run 17 or so tomorrow. I have a 10 mile race next Saturday (13th). I'm not tapering because this is really just forced speedwork for Boston in my opinion. I won't do my next long run though until the Monday after (15th).
In my procrastination I started organizing photos and videos on my computer into folders. I found this one of Max and I almost started crying. He was 4 years, 2 months. He is 6 yrs. 6 mos. now. I can't believe how little he was and how much he has improved. I will have to post a current video sometime.
Book Club tonight! I feel less than stellar but I'm excited to hang out with some of my friends that I rarely see with all the hockey travel!! Happy Thursday All!

Stuff
So-is "The Bachelor" officially the stupidest show on TV or what! Anyway, I didn't miss a second of it doing my run on the treadmill tonight!! Didn't pass the time quite as well as the Olympics!
Max had his final night of official hockey tonight. We had a big pizza party at the rink for the kids. Joe coaches these kids so I was pretty much in charge of the food. I had no idea how much to order. Max is 6 and I guarantee you he eats twice as much as I do. UNBELIEVABLE! Anyway, apparently I ordered a bit much as I now have 6 whole pizzas in my fridge! Not sure what I'm going to do with these....

Max and his buddies! I sure hope he gets a little taller soon!

Friday after 23 when I wanted to be curled up on the couch!
I am currently hawking up enough crap to fill an ice cream bucket-nasty I know! It hurts to even take a deep breath but I just started antibiotics and hopefully I will kick this. Ryan is going on 2 weeks. I generally sleep about 6 hours a night. The last two nights I've been asleep by 9:30. Definitely tired! Fortunately enough, it hasn't been affecting my running too much.....YET.
This past week I ran 5 of 7 days and finished with 64 miles. I think this might be my highest mileage for only 5 days running. (Actually, I lied. I ran 1 mile on Thursday and then decided to make it my off day)
Breakdown:
Monday- 7 m @ 7:41 on the treadmill. Lots of incline
Tuesday- 10 m w/ 4 mile repeats at 6:35-6:40
Wednesday 12 m @ 8:10
Thursday- 1-Ha!!
Friday 23 m @ 8:06
Saturday-off
Sunday- 11.17 m @ 7:53
Started the new week off tonight with 8 miles avg. pace 7:25. This was a completely unorganized run but the last 5 were at a pretty good pace.
Joe, Ryan, and Max are headed to Ryan's regional tournament Thursday night. Winner goes to state. Her team is the #1 seed. I would love to go for the whole thing but Reese has her district tournament at home. My super awesome friend Tonia is going to take Reese Saturday afternoon and overnight and Becca and I are going to drive 6 hours to watch one stinkin' hockey game! They better win!!! Winning=a trip to the state tournament in the cities which means Trader Joe's and SHOPPING!! Oh yeah-I have 3 kids in hockey-I can no longer afford to go shopping..lol!! Honestly though, it would make for such great memories for Ryan and I could also get a couple of good runs in with actual running paths and scenery!!
Just starting to catch up on the happenings of the weekend in the blogging world! Hope everyone had a great one!
