May snow showers bring......

Ahh....Monday morning, May 2nd, freshly fallen snow on the ground, frosty windshield......Sent my son to school today in snowpants and boots. I am SO sick of this. It is supposed to be SPRING and when it is SPRING, 26 degrees is much too cold to run in. Winter, 26 is heavenly, but for SPRING, it is just wrong....

To the random update because honestly, I am just not a writer. I'm a babbler rambler and this is my blog and this is what I do. Do NOT expect to be enlightened, do NOT expect creative flowing thoughts. DO expect stories of my son shooting "nuisance" birds out of the bird feeder and hiding them under a bucket on my deck and DO expect running thoughts and strategies that change DAILY. (No, my son is not a mini Jeffrey Dahmer and I did not condone this. He LOVES animals, knows and can identify EVERY bird, and I mean EVERY bird, and is actually a tender hearted boy trying to protect....and it's a BB-gun not a .40 caliber semi automatic pistol)

Moving on:

*Reese ran the mile for gym class on Friday. She is 10 years old and in the 4th grade. I did NOT go and stalk her as much as I wanted too. All the kids in grades 3-6 run the mile during the school year for phy ed. They have a series they do in attempt to receive the Presidential Physical Fitness award. We have a smaller school and a little over 100 kids per grade. She ran the overall top time of ALL the girls in the elementary school and outright beat every boy in her class. I was not at all proud of her..... When I picked her up from school, her face was just beaming!!! The gym teacher had PRAISED her which goes A LONG way with this middle child who sometimes gets overshadowed by her big sister. Beautiful runner, beautiful form! This did not come from me and I have pictures of myself to prove it.

*Ryan is playing hockey on a AAA team this spring/summer. It's an invite only team and these girls are GOOD. Fun to watch her have to work HARD just to keep up. She was SO sore and tired this morning. We had a travel FULL practice weekend with hours on the ice getting ready for a BIG tournament next weekend.

*I am not humble when it comes to my kids on my blog. Real life, OF COURSE, but on my blog....they are the "bee's knees" and you will hear about it-ha!

*I do not have a hotel room for Grandma's yet. I also have to go by myself because Joe is taking Ryan to a hockey tournament. I wonder if I could park at the start line with an air mattress in the back of my Suburban-ha!

TRAINING UPDATE:

My long run yesterday was to take place in a nasty nasty blizzard with 40 mph winds, snow, sharp sleet, and I was just not badass enough to do it this time. I almost went in the ditch slipping off the road in my car and got frostbite from the wind getting gas earlier in the morning so I called Katie and bailed. My options were to move the run to today (which I did NOT want to do) or tackle the DREADMILL (which I also did not want to do). The treadmill won.... Planned run was 1 hour steady, 5X3 min@MP/3 min.easy, 30 min. steady. My NOT good math mind thought this was 17 miles. It was 15 and I wanted to do 17 so I had to run some more-blech.....So not enjoyable but my pace was where I wanted it and I did the MP pace intervals b/w HMP and MP. 17 miles/2:15.

Honestly, NO one sweats more than me on a treadmill even when I'm not working that hard..... It is SO gross. I also drink WAY more on the treadmill than I do outside. At 11 miles I had to grab a towel because my shorts would not hold anymore water and it was just running down the back of my legs . I also had to keep my shirt on just to soak up the sweat. I think I lost about 3 pounds of water on one run.

See how much "hotter" I am after I run outside-ha ha!!! I'm thinkin' I better go fix my hair and put some makeup on and redeem myself!!

Happy Monday y'all!!!

Not a mini-Jeffrey Dahmer, huh? And the neighbors will remember his as such a nice, quiet boy...

Ya...We've had snow in Utah the last week. This week it is supposed to warm up to 70...thank goodness! But who knows what the next week will bring? I want warm running weather!

I am still laughing about the bb gun and all the underlying references. Too funny.

Snow - you said it - Enough is enough.

I would probably cause self-harm if I had to still be dealing with snow!

Wow! Snow pants should not be necessary in May.

Congratulations to Reese on her mile. That is so impressive! Congratulations to Ryan, too, on the hockey team! You should be proud of your kids! I love reading about them.

We camped for Grandma's one year. It was much better than the flea-ridden motel that we'd stayed in the year before. Good luck finding a room!

Ugh, doesn't it seem like the longest winter ever? I am so tired of snow. We had snow twice last week in Montana. I say bring on the sunshine!

Congrats to Reese!! How amazing for her.

You sound like my hubby on the treadmill. I want to put towels down all around the treadmill because the sweat is just dripping and flying off him. Oh well...at least he's running. :)

Snow on May 2nd just shouldn't be happening! Congrats to you for your impressive treadmill run (I sweat that much too!) and also to your daughter. I would be bragging about that accomplishment too, you must be so incredibly proud of her!

Love this image of your son. So funny. :) Reese...that girl is going to go far! Amazing talent! And Ryan, so cool that she is gets to be involved in a sport that she is so good at and can be so dedicated to. You definitely have 3 amazing kiddos. They are lucky to have such supportive, talented, smart and wise parents to love and encourage them.

I was thinking of you and how much you sweat yesterday. I kept expecting myself to be wet with sweat but every time I felt my skin it was just dry dry dry. Maybe a sign that I'm not drinking enough water. hmmm. Great job on your workout.

Yeah Reese! That is one fast girl! I bet Mom was beaming too!

And the snow is just so wrong.

I dunno… 17 miles in 2:15 requires NO redemption :) Sure wish that snow would give y'all a freakin' break! Sheesh!
I love the stories about your kids! Awesome about that mile for Reese and that invite-only team for Ryan… and good shootin' by lil 'Jeffrey' ;-)

Sounds like you need a trip "down South" and you even closed the blog with the correct closing - Y'ALL. (I love it!) You will fit right in. Can't believe it's still snowing. That is wrong!

Go Reese - congrats. (I won the presidential award in the 4th grade, I still have my framed certificate in a box, somewhere)

I'm a heavy sweater too. NOT looking forward to the "dripping shorts/ sloshing / stinky shoe runs" that are very soon to come. Yuck!

I still can't believe you guys are getting snow!!!

I'm with you on the bragging rights on your own blog. At first I felt sketchy about it...but then thought WHY?

You have some pretty amazing kiddos to be proud of! I'll congratulate the girls and raise an eyebrow to your little guy! Just kidding! I know exactly what you mean-that's my dude with bugs. :)

So happy for Reese, and for you! I love that I feel I know each and every one of your kids:)

I bet I sweat even more than you do:) I drink a ton when I run.

Snow...boo!

So, do you always dress up for your treadmill runs? You look great!

Oh, and love your writing. You may not have a mainstream writing style, but you are witty and funny!

here's to the spring making its way to you for good!
Congrats to Reese!!!! I would brag on my blog also if my kid did that!!! I brag about my boys on my blog with no shame at all!!! ha ha!

Lindsay said...

way to go reese!!! beating the boys. she's my hero. tell her an old 26-yr old granny thinks she's awesome :) i know i thought college people were 'old' up until i was like 16 so i'm sure 26 is ancient to her... (just think of what that makes you!) ;)

also impressed with ryan. i was never invited to be on teams... hmmmmm i can't imagine why? oh right you have to have skills. minor detail.

as for mini dahmer... well... 2/3 ain't bad.

kidding kidding! you know i love hearing your random rambles.

You surely DO sweat a ton! I would too- inside. I might have gone for the 26F. You need some warm weather! I am sending some your way. Today was 65 and sunny =D

OK...so I will be OK with my boys shooting the jays out of our trees so that the songbirds can nest safely. We are big birdwatchers too- I had pair of kestrels that nested in our yard and were swooping down to snatch hummingbirds last year. I like both of those types, so we just observed as it happened. The turkeys are the worst, because they poop everywhere.

All I can say is that Reese's high school track will be FUN to watch. Woo hoo!!

Sunday - My long run was while it was snowing and gusting winds now that we are in CO. Thought about all you ladies up north and quit my whining. :)

26?!?!?!?!? SNOW??? gross. double gross. seriously. i totally would have opted for the treadmill as well. i'm pretty sure that there is a limited amount of patience available for winter running, and mine has run out by mid march.

congrats to the fast girl with the good form :) hurray.

Jenn,
WTH!! Wow, your snow actually stuck!! I am so over it....thank God today is beautiful. Finally sunshine so I am a happy girl:

Way to go Reese!! Well, she is your daughter so I am not surprised!

I just got a hotel room for Grandma's weekend. I was thinking I was all cool and everything because last year I waited until April and still scored a room at the Inn. It was great because it was steps from the finish line. I called a few places a few weeks ago and everything is completly booked!!! Grr! I got on a few waiting lists but I do not want to take the chance that someone will cancel and I will be the next in line. I must have spoke with people from 12 different hotels. I am booked at a hotel...not the greatest and not so close to the finish line. The funny thing is that it is still insanely expensive! Holy cow! I know darn well that the price will go right back down...the minute all of us Grandma's runners leave town:) Good luck to you. Woo hoo! Let's plan on meeting in Duluth:)

Take care Jenn! Hugs!

I would not have even ATTEMPTED to battle the wind, snow and sleet--you are a trooper for trying.

TM=sweat no doubt. YOU LOOK AMAZING on yours! Can I have your legs?!!

And brag-on sista! Your kiddos are talented!!!

Hoping nicer weather greets you soon Jenn!
