One week later

So-I've had a chance for Boston to settle and it's been exactly one week since race day! Since I haven't been doing much running I've been doing A LOT of thinking and here's what I've come up with in absolute CLASSIC random fashion:

*There are way too many crazy people who have already run ANOTHER marathon since Boston

*I am not one of those crazy people!

*I will never be one of those crazy people!

*I was more tired at the end of Boston than at the end of Twin Cities. Does that mean I really didn't make that much of an improvement, I just ran harder?

*The Boston course was not quite as difficult as I anticipated. I like downhills and they were quite helpful to me.

*I have totally packed on weight in the last 4 weeks and I am NOT happy with myself right now!

*I don't know what to do with all this Boston memorabilia. I want to save it but don't know what to do with it.

*Recovery SUCKS and I can't run for SHIT!

*I have a half marathon in less than 4 weeks and I need to decide whether I have a goal for this

*I am not running much but I don't feel relaxed. I feel highly stressed and anxious!

*Have I mentioned I HATE recovery

*I am running a 5K with my daughter on Saturday. She is 9 and very excited about this! It is her 3rd 5K.

*I miss Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks.

*At one point I swore I would only ever run one marathon and cross it off my bucket list. This is now the ONLY race I like.

*I need to find some sort of pill to make me sweat less. Seriously, anything over 6 miles and the people on the treadmill next to me at the gym get a free shower!

*Would I have gotten 3:15 if I ran with the 3:15 pace band? Probably not...

*Running occupies no less than 75% of my thoughts

*I love reading race reports!

*My house needs an overhaul but I don't care about it right now.

*I cut out sugar again and it is ABSOLUTELY killing me!

*2 people have asked me how long the Boston marathon was

*My sister paid my entry fee and travel expenses to travel to Chicago for the Rock n'Roll HM in August! I LOVE Chicago!

*Do I really have to wait another year for a vacation alone with my husband?

*I need a fall marathon in September or Late October, early November. I don't want to spend a million dollars to travel there. I hate making decisions.

*I am totally craving this Greek pizza I had in Boston! SOOO Good!

*What if I never get below 3:18:37.

*Did anyone else go into Johnny Cupcakes in Boston and think they sold cupcakes..lol!

*Why do I live in Roseau?

*Why is it so D*MN windy here?

*I want candy!

*Is the Boston Marathon really over???????????

Your sister is so wonderful, you are a lucky girl!!
I think you should rename your post, "Random Thoughts from the Girl in Recovery." These marathons have us going so strong and pushing so hard and after it's all done, it's just hard to let down! Fun post though and I can totally relate!

Love your random thoughts. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who's mind works that way.

Why don't you give the Denver Marathon a try? It's on October 17th. This will be the first year it is a Rock 'n Roll. If the course stays the same, you'll get your fill of hills (& altitude).

Nice sister! Your daughter being on her 3rd 5K at 9 is awesome! That is the age I teach and very few do 5ks.

Do you not have Starbucks and Dunkin Doughnuts?

I have no idea what Johny Cupcakes is so I would have done that had I seen it. I"m all about cupcakes.

I agree totally on the race reports!!!!

Hate to laugh, but your random thoughts are hilarious! Glad to know that I am not the only one with chatter like that in my head...

Hope you and your daughter have a great time at the 5k!

Love your post! You have a lot of thoughts going through your mind. I'm sure you will find the right fall marathon for you.

Wow, can I be your sister too? I am responsible for ALL of my race fees which means my season is over!

I love this post because I know a lot of those random thoughts! I know why before bikini season do we gain weight? Giving up sugar I did it once, but I still indulge at least once a week on something totally worth it!

What about KC in October? I'm running that one and KC is a relatively cheap place to visit. Entry fee is only 70 bucks right now. There is Omaha as well but it isn't my favorite course so I'm skipping out on that one this year.

You're hilarious! I'm with you on the sugar thing. Gave up peeps. Then I dove headfirst into my stack of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Urg!

Bostom memorabilia? How about a nice shadow box?

A few things: you are going to go below 3:18, I think you have a shot for making the marathon trials (I really do!); weight gain is normal after a marathon, it will pass once you start training again; no sugar, wow and why do this to yourself?; i went from 14% body fat 2 weeks before the marathon to 19% yesterday. Crazy!!!; I feel very slow now, too, and wonder how people can race soon after marathons. 8:30 pace seems hard now!!!

I love that you are running with your daughter!!!!

How about getting a memory box or a chest of some sort? My mom had a box made for me over Christman for me to keep my bibs and medals- it's perfect. I would love to keep them all out but they pile up...so I leave the prior year out and put past ones away.

Love it! I can relate to so many points...the marathon is my distance and its a love/hate relationship, I too have put on weight, miss Dunkin' Donuts and I'm trying to cut out sugar. And I do love reading race reports! I've only run once since Boston but I'm fully recovered (I think) and ready to keep working out. Insanity!!

Oh Jenn,
You always make me smile:) I love reading race reports too! Don't even talk to me about weight...I have put on at least four pounds...remember those size 2 jeans we were talking about...yea, they are feeling a little snug in the thighs lately:( You look skinny as hell!! I love Chicago...great city! Good luck to you and your daughter this weekend!! Take pictures:)

I hope I have the same attitude about running marathons as you after my first!

Glad Boston was such a great experience for you! It was great meeting you too!

Lol, you are funny, great thoughts! If u neclver get under 3:18:37 that's ok, still faster than 99% of the population! Will u do Boston again? Seriously, what is up with Johnny Cupcakes?!? Its so stupid!! I went in curious one time, I didn't get it then, and I still don't get it now. Weird. Good luck with ur recovery! I'm sure its almost over!

you crack me up. I love your posts! Sorry to hear recovery isn't going well for you. Hopefully the 5k this weekend with your daughter will help you get back into things. Have you thought about the Hartford Marathon or Philly? Both are in the fall.
