Snow and Whatever

December 2nd is here and we were blessed with a glorious DUMPING of snow to remind us we live in MN. My son thinks this is about the greatest thing ever and has spent about 10 minutes all day indoors! I think it is beautiful but it makes me think of skiing and sledding not running! Anyway, I committed to running so run I must.

Here's a bunch of random news...

I got yet another pair of new shoes-Brooks Launch. I have only worn these once but I think they are what I've been looking for. So far, I give them an A-. They feel awesome but it looks like someone took a highlighter to them!'

I met a girl at the fitness center a couple of weeks ago. She was very athletic looking, although pregnant, and I had never seen her before which is odd because our town is quite small. Apparently, she married a local guy and hasn't been here long. Anyway, I had my Fargo marathon bag with me and she ended up asking me about it. Turns out she and her husband had also run the half marathon. She asked how I did and vice versa. She ran a 1:44 which is a great time in itself but then mentioned she had run with her husband and it was his first. She said she would normally run a little faster. I said, How much faster. She said her PR is 1:24. Holy Smack! We exchanged emails and she invited me to a Christmas fundraiser for kids in the Ukraine tomorrow night. I think it will be fun since it appears neither of us have too many local running friends. Too bad she's prego and can't make me fast for Boston.

I ran 6 miles today on the treadmill because I had my son home and really had no other options if I wanted to run during the day. I was going to run at a slow pace since my ambition level wasn't very high. I managed .8 miles before I thought I would die if I didn't take a bathroom break. I struggled to 1 mile and then ran to the bathroom. During my 15 second break I shifted my plan and decided to run a fast 5 mile. I finished 5 in 34:31 which rejuvenated me a bit. I've always had an easier time hitting shorter distances faster on the treadmill(any treadmill) than outside. Long distances, not so much... Doesn't matter, I still hate the treadmill and would much rather be outdoors!

I am traveling out of town with my middle daughter Reese for hockey this weekend. It is just the two of us since my other kids also have hockey and we have to split up. I'm very excited to hang out with just her and also to get some shopping done.

My right hip flexor is killing me. It is sore even when I lightly press in the general area. I should probably stop lightly pressing but for some reason I like to inflict pain on myself. I'm sure it is sore from running on the treadmill recently since I logged 95% of my miles outdoors until last week.

I like reading these random 100 things posts on people's blogs so I'm posting one under the "Who am I" section below my profile pic. but I could only think of 61 things so it will be 61 random things.

had to giggle about you pressing on the pain. i tend to do that on my leg that i've had stress fractures, just to check if i have any hint of the same pain i had before. it's weird how we inflict the pain on ourselves! Great that you met another runner at the gym, fast is right!

Great job on the speedy TM run!

Gosh, I can't believe that your new friend is pregnant right now, just when she could help you with Boston! That's sooooo funny! I just scoped out a new friend of ours as a "perfect" new friend to run with on Sundays for our long run(he's VERY fast...)BUT he's nice too(of course).
Don't press where you're already in pain(I do that all the time, ouch)!

Yes, it was negative 6 degrees and snowing here in Colorado when I woke up this morning. Ugh. At least we are only getting a few inches.

1:24? Holy crap! I would love to run a race in that time. Oh well.

I hope your hip flexor feels better soon. Ever do yoga?

Very good that you found a running buddy! Being a native to TX, I'd probably do a lot of treadmill running in the MN winters. :-) It is supposed to snow here tomorrow though...go figure, the day I have a long run!

GOOD LORD 1:24! hope you will be able to run with her post-pregnancy!

lol about inflicting the pain... i'm the same. when it's just a small, massage-like pain anyway...

How far along did she look? Maybe she can push that kid out in time to still help you with Boston? LOL!
You crack me up! I have been having some stomach issues, and pressing on the spot makes it feel better - I just look like an idiot walking around holding my stomach! :)
Have fun this weekend, I'm off to check out the 61 things :)

Oh, and great job speedy! Very impressive! And I am like you, I only get off the dreadmill to go when I hit a nice even number even if it means I might explode! LMAO!

Thanks for your very KIND words on my blog; I'm doing slightly better today. Bad timing for sure but I'm hanging in there. Thank you!!

We should get a blog world group to meet up in Boston - it's on my b-day and we can go have a celebratory drink!

Oh, and my left hip flexor is killing me; we'd make a good pair!
