Could someone help me move this treadmill to my kitchen!

OK-Runner’s World and Running Times came in the mail today. I am getting NOTHING done around here…Lots and lots of coffee consumed though!! Also, Shalane is my hero!!! (don't worry Kara, I will be stalking you again soon!)

I’m laughing at the comments on my last post! My treadmill is NOT in my kitchen. I have a kitchenette in the family room in the lower level of my house. My actual kitchen IS my favorite room to hang out in though-ha! Perhaps I should put it in there, however as Lindsay pointed out, it might be too easy to hop off and grab a snack! On the flipside, perhaps if I was sitting there eating a snack I would feel inspired to get on it!!

On the running front!

Or the” lack of running” front the last couple of days…..

My week in review. I’ll preface this by saying I was planning for 56 miles with the only attempt at speed being 4 miles at HM tempo. This would be my highest mileage week since returning from my injury but I was feeling strong and my legs are good.

Monday: 10 miles total- 6 am(8:21)/4 pm(7:52) – 30 Day Shred Level 2

Tuesday: 10 miles total- 6 am(8:06)/4pm (7:23)-this was my attempt at HM tempo.....30 day Shred Level 2

Wednesday: no running-Spin class. Since I was at the gym I did an upper body workout there and for Jill, threw in some 3 way lunges:)

Thursday: 8 miles total-4 am(8:13)/ 4 pm (7:28) 20 minute core routine and the strength portions of the 30 Day Shred that my daughter was doing. (I was multitasking as there was a mountain of laundry to be folded during the cardio, and ab portions-that was my excuse anyway!!)

Friday: 10 miles (8:06). OK- here is where my brain decided to ignore the advice of my body. This run was going OK. My legs felt tired from the start but not sore so I plodded along. At 9.1 miles I felt a tiny tiny twinge in my hip. My route looped around by my house at 9.25 but because I’m so extremely anal at times I just had to run the 10 miles. Honestly, I might as well run nothing if I’m only going to run 9.25 right…..Yes, I have issues… Anyway, the twinge got quite a bit worse but by golly I finished the 10 miles. Friday afternoon it passed a bit and I did the 30 day Shred Level 2 again. Friday night, slight numbness down my right leg. Also, very dull hip ache. Really, not severe at all and I would have paid it no attention in the past but it really worried me this time.

Saturday: woke up-no pain but still the dull ache. This time I’m listening. Took the entire day off from any sort of exercise. Was initially planning on a 4 mile easy run.

Sunday: Still aware something not quite right but no pain, no numbness. Plan was for a 14 mile long run. Didn’t even consider this. I REALLY wanted to get out on my bike because the weather was SO beautiful. Decided to even forego the bike. This totally sucked but emotionally, I could NOT rehab this injury again. As much as it just about KILLED me I did nothing except a pushup/ab workout in the evening.

So-I finished up the week with 38 miles instead of the planned 56. I’m OK with this. No races on the horizon. Patience....

Today-I feel 100%. No pain, no numbness. Decided to head out on a cautious 4 mile run and if it bothered, STOP. Nothing. I felt great and rested. I wore my Garmin (I always do for the data on Garmin Connect later) but I spun it to the inside of my wrist. I just wanted to run easy and not freak out about being slow….Wow, 2 days rest is good. I thought I was giving about 8:15 effort straight across and data showed I finished mile 4 at 7:19. I’ll take it!! Chalk it up to a lucky day as I’m quite certain 8:15 effort will result in 8:15 pace tomorrow. Anyway, weather is GORGEOUS so I’m heading out on my bike for my 20 mile loop tonight. Not sure of how hard I will do this. We’ll see!

Anyway, now that I've spewed out my week (I'm sure more for my benefit than any of yours) I should probably run around with my head cut off here for about 15 minutes so my husband actually thinks I accomplished something today....I'm thinking eggs and toast for supper....

Sounds like you backed off just in time! Thanks for the follow by the way, looking forward to reading about your journey. By the way, dang you're fast!

So proud of you for stopping and not letting the running stubborness that we all have get the best of you. Think of me on crutches and how much you NEVER want to be here again. You are really listening to your body even when it is whispering and not screaming at you!!!

Yay for NO Pain! So happy to hear! :)

No pain is great. Good for you. Now I am jealous - if you have a kitchen bigger than the one in the lower level!

Haha! Too tempting to run and eat cookies at the same time to have the TM in the kitchen for me :)

Well, about that hip...2 days of is a good thing. Hope it keeps behaving for you. And it IS possible to train for a marathon on 40 MPW ;) lots of people have done it, anyway. But you won't need to do that, I am pretty sure. Your paces are awesome!
We must be on the same wave length. I slept in today for a rare 2 days off in a row as well.

Yes, I remember coming back from my stress fractures, and how nervous I used to be. I think it was smart to rest! You have been building up both mileage and speed, so your body is going to be pissed from time to time. I think the lower mileage week was a good call. Do you ever do 3 miles high, one mile down in terms of mileage? I try to, though I have a hard time with it. Oh, and look at all that core work you are doing. Awesome!
BTW, I worked from home today and have accomplished nothing. Must be something in the air!

Good job listening to your body...it really is so hard to do! You needed those two days of rest:) I am obsessed with runners world. I have a friend that has the last five years of issues and is letting me borrow them, it is heaven! Are you liking the 30 day shred? I am on level 2 right now? How heave of weights do you use?
Be proud of your 38 miles...that is more than most americans run in a year!

Thanks for stopping by!! And you are sweet! But, to be fair, I only birthed 4 of my babies!

I laughed out loud when you said you're getting nothing done today! My husband has come to realize that when my Runner's World comes in the mail, I don't get much done.

You have amazing mileage! How long have you been running?

Thanks for the comment on my blog! We are BIG hockey fans over here!!
Funny story: I once had an exercise bike in my kitchen. It was mostly because it was the only place my co-habitant and I could find room for it, but it was kind of a good motivational tool, as well!
Excellent job of listening to your body. It's definitely not easy, but worth it in the end. Besides, 38 miles in 1 week is still pretty darn awesome! :)

You are smart! I'm glad you took the rest days. I'm with you though, they are hard mentally when you want to go out so bad!
Have a good week girlie!

way to stay ahead of an injury! so smart to take off the time before things get out of hand and you're sidelined for weeks.

i can't believe that you had 56 miles scheduled with no race on the horizon! wowza! that's commitment!

Wow, I really should read my posts before posting them. What I meant to say - do you ever run 3 weeks of high mileage followed by one week of lower mileage (recovery)?

good call! Glad you are pain free! :-)

Ooh aren't we fancy with our two kitchens! ;) one for running, one for eating.

I am proud of you for listening to your body and not being ashamed to cut back. You don't want to bring your American All-Star crutches back!

You are sooo smart to back off! It is a hard thing to do but you know when your body is saying no. happy to read you didn't wait until it was screaming NOOOOOOOOOO! Easier to give up a little now than a lot later.

eggs + toast for dinner is SO much better than eggs + toast for breakfast. Love it.

Love the photo of you and little man too. :)

Hi Jenn,
I am so glad that you are listening to your body and that you know when enough is enough! I would hate for you not to be able to run. You need to take care of that hip:)

Funny about the treadmill. My treadmill is still facing the wall in the corner of our lower level living area. It is going to have to show its face sometime soon:) God, I really hate the mill! I would rather run outside....hands down! Why do we live here again?

Jenn!!!! Keep listening to your body, girl! Ease back into it because, like you said, you don't have anything huge on the horizon! Great core workout, nice.

Ok, so I officially hate you (not really :)) - you take that time off yet you are still wickedly fast. I take a few months off and I am super happy just to get in a 10:30 min/mile...grr.

Good job with the running - and more importantly, listening!! And hell ya, I'm proud you're back to your 3-ways :).
