The lowdown!

First week of school, my son's birthday party, picture day, and a volleyball tournament....slowed me down a little here!

First day of school!

First of all, a one line post and so much encouragment! So easy to remember why I enjoyed doing this blog in the first place! Thankyou

Anyway, to more pertinent information. So- I initially injured myself on May 27th but wasn't officially diagnosed until June 16th through an MRI. Like I mentioned before, a femoral neck stress fracture. Was basically told recovery would be LONG and SLOW. Unless I never wanted to run again I was advised to do NOTHING, I mean NOTHING for 6 weeks and completely non-weight bearing on crutches. Now, I am EXTREMELY impatient and this about killed me but I made it for the most part. It was ever so enjoyable to watch my fitness go down the tubes. At the 5 week mark, it was just about impossible for me to keep using both crutches. I'm a mom of three and even going to the grocery store was a major chore as I couldn't push a cart or carry groceries. I can honestly say, I don't think I've EVER been more frustrated in my whole life. My stress reliever gone, my ass getting bigger, and nothing I could do about it. Anyway, at five weeks I dropped a crutch and remained on one crutch for the next 2 weeks. I also started light biking and walking. Yes, walking. There was a day I had absolutely no patience for walking which is why I'm a runner. At the 7 week mark, walking sounded like the most glorious adventure ever. I wanted to walk about 100 miles a day! I also started doing the 30 day shred videos-modifying them to avoid the impact and lifting weights. Things seemed to be progressing well and I was almost pain free with walking. I gradually brought in the bike, tried the weightless running system at PT and eventually on August 28th, started walking with short bursts of running. Now, I'm totally shortening this as there were many up and downs throughout this recovery and I made a number of mistakes which probably delayed it but overall I'm a success story. I was told I would likely not even be able to start weightless running until mid September early October. It is not yet mid-September and I'm running up to 4 miles consecutively outside. I also bike around 10-15 miles a day and am back at the gym trying to get back in all around good shape. My legs are actually doing VERY well. They seemed to remember where they left off and wanted to go right back there. My lungs however. My God, how frustrating to be sucking air at 2 miles after you could run a marathon at a pace faster than that a few months ago....

Anyway, that was the little lowdown! I hate this whole period of my life so I am just anxious to move forward and get back to blogging about things I LOVE like running and my kids!! I will say, sometimes blessings come in disguise. I'm not sure I've ever felt this determined.....

So-injury behind me and ready to blog about random nothingness in the life of a middle aged wannabe runner with 3 hockey playing rugrats and a husband who is probably trying to sell me on Ebay..... Later!!

definitely missed your randomness. i think in the period youve been gone and comparing the kids picture to the last ones in spring, theyve definitely grown!

im sure with your athletic ability, once you can finally really for sure get out there and run, your legs will never even know they were on the Injured Reserve List for so long.

Thanks for sharing! This reminded me so well of my stress fracture (except I was not on crutches, that must have been so tough!). But, your lungs will come back, and you are going to be stronger and faster than before. Just take it one step at a time and push the biking bc that is very easy on the body and will help your running, too!

That does not sound like fun at all. I thought I had it bad with my foot injuries. Getting injured definitely makes one appreciate what we have on a regular day!
Glad you're feeling strong and getting better! Take it easy and you'll be back. Running for years to come is the ultimate goal, right?

So missed you! But I'm glad you're all recovered (mostly) and on your way back to running and blogging! I can't imagine having to go through that - but hell, you did awesome!
Glad you're back!
