News and Shoutouts!

Thursday-in the olden days it was known as "Thirsty Thursday". Currently, it is known as "Thrifty Thursday" as I have spent most of the morning sifting through grocery ads and appliance flyers since we have no food in this house and my dryer has broken yet again! This is not all bad! I can't cook and I can't wash clothes :)

What else is new:

I got in a fight with my daughter over wearing a hat outside to school this morning. It was merely -23 below with the windchill but apparently this is nothing to an eleven year old kid!

I am heading out of town with Joe for a very quick overnight excursion tomorrow night. We have a 2pm game on Saturday so this will be short but worth it!

I am totally avoiding taking down my Christmas decorations! I've decided March would be more convenient than today and I will just not invite anyone over until then!

Training is going well. I was going to run an easy paced 5 on Tuesday morning before work. I was up, dressed and ready to go. I hopped on the treadmill but at .3 miles I had a very wierd thing happening around the outside of my left knee. It wasn't excruciating pain but it said "stop running now!" I did and it didn't bother me the rest of the day. I hit the fitness center in the evening and was able to do the 5 no problem. I also did a killer weight workout. I always avoid weights on my lower body because I just don't like them and my legs feel fried when I try to run. Don't get me wrong, I do think they are necessary but I just don't WANT it bad enough to do them! Anyway, one of my NYR's was to pay more attention to this aspect of training, so, a lower body weight training session, I did! I also did a number of lunges with the weight bar across my shoulders (I call them 3-way lunges). Not sure if that is the correct terminology but I move each leg out left, center, right. OMG-I could hardly walk normally yesterday. It is obvious I need to do this more often if I am this SORE!!!!! So, after I hobbled around at work all day, I knew I had planned to do Katie A.'s treadmill hill workout and was thoroughly looking forward to this-NOT!!! I did it but it was HORRIBLE! Did I say HORRIBLE because what I meant was HORRIBLE!!! Note to self, DO NOT lift leg weights when you’ve been avoiding them for months and then run 10 miles of hills. Fortunately, the fitness center was flooded with people I knew and I was not about to give up! Honestly, my 8:15 pace which is an easier pace for me right now felt like 6 minute pace! I also did upper body weights when I was done and went home feeling quite proud of myself. My plan calls for 10 again today but there is NO way I can do this. I'm heading outside even though it is -5 below and I'm going to run ridiculously slow but hopefully knock out 5 miles or so.

This is what I want to be wearing on my run today!!

This is what I am actually wearing but with a jacket overtop! And yes, that is one of my Christmas trees in the background!!

OK- so on to more important things! Weekend Shoutouts! Here's what I know!

Steph is running 2 marathons-Mississippi Blues on Saturday and First Light on Sunday! She is doing a 50 marathons in 50 states challenge. This is so out of my realm of comprehension that all I can do is say Good Luck!

Bethany and Ryan are heading to Orlando for the infamous Disney races! Hope the weather is a little warmer than projected!! Good luck guys!

Robin from www.westfordmommy.blogspot.com is running the Goofy Challenge in Orlando as well and I believe her sister Kelli is doing the half! Robin is kind of from my hometown! We both lived there at one time anyway! Although I never knew her then, she has been an awesome help to me since I started this running mumbo jumbo and I am wishing her the very best of luck! I believe this is in order since she has had quite the misfortune with injury as of late! Good Luck Robin and have fun without the kiddos for the weekend!

One last pic of me and my kiddo!

Thanks for the shout out! :-) its chilly but as long as we don't have to look at snow we're good. I got thrift store throw away clothes for the start so we should be all set (27 in the am! Ahh)
What's the deal with kiddos not dressing apropriately in the winter?? I used to do that too!! I used to wear flip-flops year round and always wear a light jacket in the snow. My mom was always yelling at me. I guess I was trying to be cool LOL

-23 and no hat? Talk about brain freeze...

I have got into some of the same fights with my kids over the not wearing a hat thing!!! They would rather be cold and "cool" instead of looking like a "Homer" in a hat:)

Great job on running in the icky below zero temps!!

Oh, and by the way, you are looking like a "hot mamma"!!

Why take down the tree - it is so cold and yucky that you need some bright light in the house. Way to go out there and get er done!

I did 3-way lunges (and yes, you have the name right. I do mine with dumbbells though) a week ago last Monday (that's be like 10 days ago) and can finally NOT feel them killing me. My once-upon-a-time-trainer told me they are the BEST things for runners to do, but like yourself, found they were making my runs suffer because I was so miserably sore after. So I vow to keep doing 'em to get stronger. Cuz yeah, I suck going up hills and Boston hills, though I'm sure will be a piece-o-cake for you, squashed me. So yeah, we'll do them together and make ourselves accountable for each other :).

You are just sooooo cute and look amazing! Daughter is a cutie, too...and it looks like she has a hat on, mom?? :).

-5 degrees...Yikes. I feel chilly just thinking about that! I've turned into a big chicken the last few weeks. Here it's around 10-20 degrees, but I've succumbed to the treadmill. The actually running in the cold is fine, but for whatever reason I'm freezing for the rest of the day.

Loved the pics!

I just unplug the outdoor lights and wait until it is warmer to take them down...now the tree...well that's gotta go! LOL...

You girls look super cute...and yes, I can totally relate to the winter running gear...good job getting out there!

I've been running in Miami and I have to say I prefer the cold of NE (which is not as bad as MN), but still. I was also forced to do some treadmill running, and that is pure torture for me!

OMG now I have to figure out what 3 way lunges are, and add them to my list too.

If it makes you feel any better I have a reversible table runner across the top of my piano. One side is fall and the other side is Christmas. Christmas was up almost all of last year until I flipped it back over to fall. I forgot about it for months and then when I noticed it I was too lazy to do anything about it. It's still sitting on the Christmas side and will remain like that until the end of the month when I move.

You look too cute! I can't even imagine it being that cold.

Man, and here I am complaining about running in single digits this morning. At least it was on the positive side.

And the run hurt like heck...too cold...give me spring!

I missed this post because I was sick in bed and had zero energy for anything! Ugh!
So glad you got those runs in and the weight lifting - you are gonna have to send ME your weight routine. I always walk around not knowing what I should do! You are amazing, as always! Hope you feel better girly!
