Well-it got to 18 degrees below zero this morning and tomorrow should have windchills of 30 below. It is no longer a choice of whether or not I want to run outside. I just plain can’t. There is no amount of money I could spend to keep me warm in this weather. Once again I was on the treadmill today. Have I mentioned, I HATE the stupid treadmill. There is absolutely no way I can fathom running more than 12 miles (my record) on the d*mn thing. This is going to be a LONG winter. The extended forecast looks terrible and I will likely not get outside until maybe one day next week. Unfortunately, I have a job and the prime hours of the day in which we actually may see a high of 2 degrees or so are spent bent over someone’s open cavity filled mouth potentially breathing in the flu! Actually, I wear a mask and I love my job when I’m there but it always feels good to complain! Enough already!
So, I rolled over this morning when my alarm went off at 4:00 am. I was planning to run before I had to take Ryan to hockey practice at 5:30 am but I could not get myself to do it. I have this agreement with my husband that he will not let me roll over or I will not cooperate in other aspects of our marriage. He is currently out of town for work so I had no fall back! I spent the rest of the day at work kicking myself because my evening would now include running. I should mention I did muster up enough motivation to do my core workout this morning! I have been very faithful with this routine over the last year and I must say although it only takes about 20 minutes it has produced pretty decent results both visually and with my running. Anyway, I did run 7 miles after work and before hockey. Good enough. Also want to mention that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Brooks Launch shoes. This is my 8th different variety of running shoes and other than their ridiculous color they are truly the most awesome shoes I have ever worn. I swear they make me faster and they feel like nothing on my feet! I give these an A plus plus!!!
I think I am done Christmas shopping. I know I always brag up my kids but they are the most gracious little things and I can’t wait for them to open their presents!!! Christmas is truly about giving and there is no greater reward than putting a smile on someone else’s face. Joe and I always pick 3 kids about the same ages as ours off the giving tree and let our kids pick gifts for them. Reese and I took care of her little Christmas “friend” this past weekend and she was so excited to pick out stuff. Honestly, she would give all her presents away if she knew it would make someone else happy. Have I mentioned how GREAT my kids are and how much I LOVE them. I think maybe I have! I may not have mentioned that I never intended to have any kids and my first one was an OOPS which led to 2 more OOPS'S. I cannot imagine where I would be in life without them!
Tomorrow I will likely run about 5 miles in the morning and then hit the fitness center in the evening during hockey practice! Next week, BOSTON plan begins. I am excited to be on a schedule again! I don't like the randomness of my current running routine. I am both dreading this winter running and looking forward to starting a new training cycle! We'll see how it all pans out! I am dropping my half marathon in January because hockey plans changed and I cannot justify traveling 6 hours and paying a race fee financially right now. I've added the TC Irish for a day 10 mile on March 14th which should be fun. I've never run a 10 mile and it will be good timing before Boston!
PS. Joni if you read this-thanks for the comment. Is there any way I could respond to you (blog or email). Sounds like we have a lot in common :)

Oh my THAT is cold. I would love the treadmill I suppose if I lived where you do lol. Goodness, I can't even fathom temps that low.
Good for you for getting up and doing core work. I need to start that up again. It's clear to me that total body fitness is important not only for health reasons but also for running. And the 7 miles you ran? You are fast girl. Nice job!
gah, cold weather sux. it has kept me indoors too. not fun.
you're such a great inspiration though because no matter what you always find a way to get up and going. you deserve and award for being able to do it all.
Yeah for being done with the Christmas shopping.
Yikes - that temp is almost too cold for me to function, much less run outdoors.
Way to go on getting the running in!
It's not too cold here (25 degrees), but we have snow! Snow is such a pain in the butt to run in and when there are no sidewalks it's dangerous too. Arg! I agree with you...It's going to be a long winter.
And wow, you run fast on the treadmill!
Seriously that is COLD! And while the treadmill can be SO PAINFUL ... at least you have that option!
Congrats on being done with shopping!
you know, you're not really done shopping until you get yourself a running skirt!!
Wow. I can't imagine running in weather that cold. I definitely would also have to have a treadmill if I lived in such a cold place, even though I really hate them too! Maybe once you start training for Boston full force the extra incentive will help make treadmill running a bit easier to do!
That is too freaking cold. I hate the treadmill too. Makes me want to SCREAM. However, I really need to haul my bootie over onto it.
BRRRRRRR!!!
Yay for loving the new Brooks!
Your kids sound like the best OOPS' ever! :)
It is a deep freeze here as well! Painful! We just got a treadmill (first run was today). Although it is mentally exhausting, it's a good option when it is this cold! I would love to hear from you, my email is gjjlborne@yahoo.ca
Brrr....that is COLD! I'm curious what your core workout is? I'm in such a workout rut.... Of course an ab workout would be more meaningful if I could shed the 20 pounds of flab covering them up!
;-)
I guess I'll stop complaining about our 15 degree high today. I've been forced indoors three times since March and I have a feeling it's going to be a few months more of HAVING to get inside.
I'm getting ready to officially start Boston Training too. Very exciting times.
ok yeah. i have never had to experience negatives. yikes! i would be staying inside too. is there perhaps an indoor track you can use as well? those are still quite boring but at least it'd be sort of a change of "scenery"...
every now and then i get in the zone on the treadmill. i've cranked out 20 miles before! yeah, i obviously have some sort of undiagnosed mental problem ;)
I'm with you on the "I HATE the treadmill comment. It has been insanely cold here too. I'm definitely not used to the -10 degree weather. Where's my sunshine!
Glad you like the Brooks Launch, I may have to check them out.
Way to get up and do core work. I needed to do core work tonight, but here I sit with a glass of wine and blogging. Oh well.
How great are your kids?!! I love moms that love their kids for having generous spirits and great hearts, you're the best! Hope you ran tonight despite the obstacles and COLD, keep at it girl...serious training is right around the corner, yeah!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. IMHO, there is cold and snow and then there is 'way up north in the middle of no where' cold and snow. I think you fall into the second! I grew up in NW WI and we were much warmer than where you live...and it is even warmer where I live now. I can't imagine the winters you have.
What does 18 below feel like?? I have zero idea... I complain about below 30', I know nothing of cold..
I love that you brag about your kiddos makes me smile.
Good luck with the Dreamill buddy.. one of my Blog friends did 20 miles on a TReadmill starting at 8pm...she said it was smoking by the end. LOL!!
My Marathon training starts on Jan 9th.. Here we go!!
Holy cow. I will never complain about the cold here again. That is nuts! At least you have a treadmill, even if running on it is kinda lame.
Yay for running moms! Thanks for the comment and follow at Mom vs. Marathon!
I can relate as we are getting it here as well. Only 4 more months of this
