RANDOM RANTS!

OK- Does anyone remember that “Little House on the Prairie” episode where Caroline gets an infection in her leg and sits in front of the fire with the Bible in her lap and a butcher knife in her hand fully prepared to cut off her leg. This is me!! Only it is my finger. My God, how could a little scrape hurt so bad!!! I just started antibiotics so hopefully this gets better soon.

This weekend marks opening deer hunting season in Minnesota which means there are no men to be found anywhere but in the woods. Even if you don’t hunt you still go to the woods or you are somehow considered less of a man! Anyway, the women celebrate by throwing this big craft show (I am not crafty) at the local city center called “Diva Days.” I always go to “Diva Days” with a couple of good friends and buy a whole bunch of crap that I don’t want but get suckered into buying! Today was no different. Fortunately, wine tasting was on the list from the local liquor store. Now, I don’t know if I consider anything with a screw on lid truly wine but I was up for the tasting (at 10 am mind you). Too make a long story short, the guy behind the counter was explaining to me that if I bought a case of this cabernet that I liked I would save $1.00 a bottle and then get an $18 rebate on the case. After 6 samples my friends and I thought this was too good to be true and each bought a case! I am now looking at 12 bottles of Cabernet, one ugly necklace, a hooded sweatshirt, a scarf and a bag of chocolate covered expresso beans and wondering why I ever leave the house.

I took my 3rd day off from running this week which hasn’t happened all year. I got up early and did the P90X core synergistics workout. I cannot complete P90X as a program but I like to use the individual videos and I am usually in excruciating pain the next day so I know they work. I also went for a 4 mile walk because it was so beautiful out this morning. I hate walking-I think it is twice as difficult as running! I really wanted to take a little more recovery time during the week though and plan on running 20 tomorrow in the balmy 56 degree weather.

I’m also still wrestling with setting my goals for 2010. I mentioned before, running marathons was really not something I had originally planned to focus on. I was in fact only ever going to run one. It’s come to my attention through my training however, that I am not fast! I’ve never had breakaway speed and I never will. I can however get to a comfortably ‘quicker’ pace and hold it fairly consistently for a long period of time. I think the marathon is the distance I could make the greatest improvement and therefore it will be my primary focus for next year –my major goal being my fall marathon 2010. I’ve decided to set up 2 sets of goals: One for Boston and one for the rest of 2010. I’ve also settled on my training plan and have a list of other mind and body goals I want to achieve before April 19th. Now, I have to go get fixed up so I can go to dinner and suck down some of this fabulous Cabernet so I will work on moving this list from paper to computer tomorrow and post it Monday! Have a great weekend-ya’ll!!

I was such a Little House fan, so I DO remember that episode. I also remember that crazy looks she had in her eyes. Don't cut your finger off! :) I hope it feels better soon. Drink some of that cabernet; that usually helps with most of my aches and pains.

Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day!

I've found wine helps and and all ailment, from cuts and tooth aches, to broken bones... ok maybe it doesn't help broken bones, but it makes you forget about them for a little. A little wine, will get that finger as good as new!

I was in the mountains running today and therefore missed our local craft fair - otherwise, I'd be sipping wine with you while donning the scarf and bracelets I didn't need and hanging a tacky holiday wreath. So I'm glad you did it for me :). Sorry about the finger; that's gotta be no fun! Nice goals for 2010! I'll be somewhere on the streets of Boston with ya'! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Sounds like an interesting weekend to me! Hope that finger heals up soon. I'm sure if you drink enough of that case of wine, you'll be feeling just fine!

I wish I could share the wine with you. I'm impressed you are working on 2010 goals. That is something I don't do and probably should. It sounds like your 2010 goal is perfect.

Jeezzz, hope your finger gets better soon. Nothing that a good dose of antibiotics won't cure, or better yet, the Cabernet!

Thanks for the ideas for the list. I hadn't thought about kitchen tools. I think I'm going to put new bathroom towels on the list.

Your not fast?! LIAR!! When you said that I looked over at your PR's. Do you have any of those wine bottles left, because you must have been delusional when you wrote that!

Don't cut off your finger. You'll totally regret that decision :) I hope it feels better soon.
