Medical Student Syndrome

Does anyone else suffer from self induced “Medical Student Syndrome” Well, let me tell you, I have it and it sucks. My doctor laughs at me because every time I see him, I’ve already diagnosed myself and know what’s wrong with me. (He happens to be a good friend's husband which is a little weird for an annual checkup) Anyway, I recently had this little circle patch of raised dry skin near my elbow that seemed to be getting bigger and looked a little like ringworm (pictures in my huge medical book) I was OK with it at first but decided to have it checked out as I really didn’t want to be known as “crazy running ringworm girl”! Doc decided to biopsy it and I got my results back. Nothing serious but it’s a type of skin lesion that generally occurs in diabetics or people with Lupus. He warned me not to google it because the internet would be full of information that was not pertinent to my situation and I would just freak myself out when there is absolutely no cause for concern. Yeah, not gonna happen. I was already googling the scientific name on my phone in the parking lot of the clinic. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have a few good years left but I’m working on my will and already considering making home videos for my kids to remember me by.

I managed my 4 mile loop in the midst of this tragedy yesterday and also got another killer skate in with the boys. They are so funny. If they win, they make me line up and do all these drills like they are little coaches. Then they stand there and snicker because I can't do backwards crossovers very well. It is quite humiliating. I also made it to the gym with my hubby for about 45 minutes and he worked me through a nice upper body workout. I'm heading out for a 10 mile today at probably an 8:30 pace. The 15 day forecast shows Saturday at 50 degrees and then a drop into winter. I am so thankful I've been able to get 2 extra outside months of running in since the marathon. Last year there was tons of snow on the ground by this time and temperatures were well below freezing. I am planning for one more 20 this weekend if I can get time.

I have book club tonight which I love. We tell our husbands we are at book club but we actually gossip, drink wine, and pick some random book at the end so it looks good. This will be my 3rd night out in one week. This has got to be some sort of record! I'm thinking I will stay away from the wine tonight as just the thought of it makes me nauseous. I don't recover quite as quickly as I used to so I'm thinking maybe Christmas I will be able to stomach a glass!

Have a wonderful day y'all.

Google is a bad thing for people who worry too much. I seriously need to stay off the computer whenever something is wrong with me. Have fun tonight and take care of your skin rash. :)

Love your site and thanks for the comment!!! I think I am going to grow it out a bit longer just cuase I feel "prettier" with long hair...its some sort of weird stigma. I am totally with you on the weather I feel like I have been so spoiled with these extra months of running when I thought with such a cool summer it was going to be a beyond brutal winter! Congrats on the BQ I hope to be that fast sometime soon becuase my Dad and I want to qualify together, but I still have about 15 minutes to shave off. My bf and I have the same love hate relationship running wiht eachother I all positive and chirpy and he is silent and in the zone maybe one day we will find a happy medium!

Hahaha! I have googled everything and I always think I am dying, too! Or that something is going to have to be amputated! Keep us updated, though!
Great workout day lady! You really nailed it. Enjoy the 10 miler and the beautiful weather over the weekend! I don't want to brag, but we don't get snow out here and almost every afternoon it's in the 40's or 50's...I'm just sayin'.

Thanks for visiting my blog!! I have a medical degree from Google as well. LOL! Luckily my dr loves it and is really open to that type of communication.
I totally freak myself out over stupid stuff.

Hi there, thanks for the comment on my blog. Yeah I feel the same way about accidentally spraying myself with pepper spray which is why I don't take it with me when I run with the dog. Having to deal with the leash is enough and I know that I would accidentally spray myself or the dog trying to manuever him and the leash.

Funny about your boys and the drills. Sounds like you've had quite the busy week and how fun about "book club" lol.

Off to become a follower of your blog and add yours to my reader!

You are too funny! Good luck writing your will and making those videos, although I'm pretty sure that you'll survive!

Have fun at the book club!

You crack me up! I've heard of those Wine Clubs and they sound fun! I don't have much time to read right now though, that's sad! My husband calls me the "arm chair doctor, dentist, psychologist...etc." Guess I need to stay away from GOOGLE too!

I completely do the same thing and Google my ailments. And they are usually wrong.

The book club sounds like a lot of fun. You didn't mention what book you are reading.

I'm a self-diagnose-ee also. I diagnosed I have A.D.D. and it must be hereditary because my daughter self-diagnosed herself with Lupus; she said her hair is falling out a lot and that's a symptom (I googled it myself). I think she's her freshman year at college is stressing her...but who knows. I'm glad you went to have it checked; hope only the best for you! Happy weekend!!
