Yeah-so I didn't freeze to death.....Just a busy week!

First of all, thankyou so much for all the advice on my last post! I truly appreciate the many valuable opinions I get from people and give them GREAT consideration when making decisions. I've learned a WEALTH of information through this blog!

So, I've been MIA for a few days. Another hockey weekend with all 3 kids going. I had to send Reese with another family so I could be at Ryan's tournament and Max's first big game of the year! He was SO excited.

He had 4 goals and was pretty darn proud of himself! I absolutely LOVE the goal celebrations of little boys. Cocky even at this age! HILARIOUS!!

I virtually cheered on my sister yesterday as she was out in Vegas running the Rock n' Roll half. She was going for 1:37 for the NYC qualification but finished in 1:39. She was still happy and said the course was the flattest course she had EVER run. I'm not really a fan of flat so I will probably not put that one on my bucket list. Anyways, I'm really happy for her but since she is not going to attempt NYC again this year, I think my fall plans will change. More on that later...

Ummmm-How cute am I at 5:30 am???? Unfortunately, I am also this cute in the middle of the day when I'm not working. My UPS man has gotten many a freak show in his package delivering career....

Actually, my husband was taunting me because he knows I won't get off the treadmill.

Speaking of the treadmill, I've been spending A LOT of time on it this week. In fact, I've been wanting to trade my bed in for a pile of wood chips and all I can think about is water and carrot sticks. Ummm-Whatever.......I may be turning into a hamster but my cravings still include Hot Tamales and red wine.....Anyway, the weather wasn't really cooperating but moreso my time (I'm asking for 28 hours in a day and a second husband for Christmas-I weighed my options and think this is a better request than trying to get rid of one of my kids-ha!)So-I really can't stand when people make excuses for why they can't work out-there is ALWAYS time. That being said, I could fill an entire page of excuses for why I couldn't get outside much. Those in Alaska and Canada would love these I'm sure....I only managed 17 of 51 miles outside. Truthfully, I had 62 planned but when the planned long run came around yesterday and I knew I would have to do it on the treadmill I decided to swap long run days and do it outside today.

To the week in review

Total miles: 51

Monday: 12 miles outside/7:42. This was supposed to be an easy run. I was at 40:48(8:10) at the 5 mile and then decided to run the rest at marathon tempo. I have self-diagnosed ADD and I can never seem to stick to my running plan for a particular run once I get started. I think this will be easier when I'm actually into a real training plan for a specific race.

Tuesday: 10 miles total. 6 miles am (8:23), 4 miles pm (7:27)

Wednesday: 5 easy treadmill

Thursday: 9 miles total with 8X800's. I just wanted to bring the speed up some and since I'm not really sure where I'm at with these right now I just set a pace on the treadmill. The first 7 at 3:17, last one at 3:09. By no means will I say I was not tired at all, but I wasn't as expended as I should be for a hard speed workout. Pace is relative as I think 3:17 is much tougher for me outside than on a treadmill and perhaps I should have compensated a little more for the difference. Tempo and long runs-much easier for me outside. I think I need to do another advice seeking post on treadmill workouts and the incline pace ratio closest to simulating outside....

Friday: 10 miles total-5 am easy/5 pm easy.

Saturday: off

Sunday: Scrapped the 16 mile long run for 5 easy miles. Couldn't tolerate the treadmill again.

So unfortunately my 62 mile week was cut short. Swapping a day doesn't make any difference in my fitness obviously but it does in my brain....This next week, I will keep the mileage up a little bit and then have a complete cut back week. I'm going to start an official plan for a 10 mile race on December 20th and I would like to go into it well rested and ready to go.

Super Congrats to all those running CIM this weekend! Katie and Aron to name a couple! Looking forward to reading race reports!

Well, off to run! Again you are all so fortunate to get yet another entirely unproofed post! Wouldn't want to disappoint and appear organized here! Happy Monday!

YAY for the treadmill LOVE!!

It always makes me crazy answering the door coming right from the treadmill . . . hey THEY knocked. THEY get the show. Pretty or not. ;)

I am glad you aren't a little frozen Popsicle...I was wondering where you were ha! First, how the heck do you look so good running? How are you so tan and have perfect skin? Just a tad jealous right now. 51 miles is AWESOME!! I am glad you aren't really considering getting another hubby...ha. I am so weird and I actually like the treadmill. Set it on 1.5 incline and I am feeling good. Yay for hockey goals..love the picture:) I love how you say that there is always time to exercise, you are so crazy busy and yet you still fit in 51 miles. Speedy miles too:) Sorry this is too long, I have just missed your blog!

Second husband? Is that legal in Minnesota? Looks like a good running week!

you ARE one busy mama!!! I love how dedicated you are; a little snow, cold and hockey will not keep you from a 51 week. 62 is overrated anyway. I'm going to email you some more injury/recovery questions, so get ready.

Wow, you're such a hard core runner! My body starts to fall apart when I run that many miles in a week! You're my blog role model...your times, your hard core workouts (what? 8 800s at that pace?!), and your will power to run even when it is cold enough out side to freeze a _________ (you fill in the blank). I think I'm inspired to try a repeat 800 workout tomorrow before my sports massage. I'm thinking 5 will be good and I can only hope to be back to running them in 3:15ish pace. 3:00 for one would be worth celebrating. Nice to have you back...hockey sounds like a full time job in itself!

51 is still impressive, even more so with that kind of schedule! Good for you!

And congrats to Max on his 4 goals!

You traded LR days and still cranked out 51?! That's pretty impressive. I hate to get off schedule...but would not want to do the LR on the TM either.

Hey. Why didn't ya do a couple more 800s so I could have had a true Yasso marathon predictor? he he...

I promise you look way better on that TM than I do!!! My problem with the TM- there's no place to spit in the garage.

I read so many different opinions on TM marathon training. One thing I read was to go with negative incline (decline?) to simulate more pounding.
AND...
That kid scored 4 goals? Wowzers! Isn't hockey usually like 3-2 ?

that's my novel today.. :)

four goals? seriously? that's amazing! i love how honest kids are and unashamed. its refreshing.

i only did one of my runs last week outside as well, and as soon as you have answers to doing intervals on a 'mill, let me know. cause i did some repeats, but they weren't much to speak of.

i did buy one of those fancy face-masks that you wear. i was going to try it out on my run yesterday--15 miles in lake effect snow--but though that it would be too warm for 28*. then, 3 miles in, when i turned and started running into the wind i regretted it. turns out i still have much to learn about running in the winter :)

those are some awesome running numbers! and i am the same way about switching runs around...i want to make sure that they fall in my weekly window, and i count my week from sunday-friday....so, it has to get in there somewhere to hit the mileage goal i had for the week. i'm pretty much obsess with the weekly totals. not sure why...its a sickness, really.

I have a love/hate relationship with the TM. I'm VERY impressed with your 51 miles. Did I mention I'm VERY impressed? WOW!! And, I think you look great at the buttcrack of dawn. At least you aren't running in your jammies :)

I don't blame you for the treadmill running! I do use it quite often, and I don't even get snow! But sometimes it's easier to just zone out on the old 'mill then have to face making a route and all the other stuff that goes with running outside! Nice week lady!
Thanks for the shout-out, race report soon, I promise!

For me treadmill runs are harder, but I think that is because I rarely run on the treadmill. Also, it is easier for me to run on the track than on the road, even if I am running 4-5 miles, so 16, 20 times around.
Great running, I think you are back to your preinjury fitness, no?
So what's your race schedule for 2011?

Great job with getting the running in. You are a master with timing!

You got a lot of miles in! I can't imagine doing that many on the treadmill but we are all different! I can't wait to see how many miles you do on a "high" week!

dang - you will be challenging Emz soon on that treadmill. Nice wk of training.

Love the pic of your hockey stars also!

Really? You'd take two husbands? Maybe you'd better rethink that. Man, they can get kind of demanding, if you know what I mean. I'd settle for the 28 hours in a day.
AWESOME mileage this last week, especially with your crazy, busy life. You always pull it all together AND keep us all motivated and pumped!

I hope you eat lots of carrots, wine and Hot Tamales this week..between kids and running(and husbands).

You GO!!! I must say that whenever I start feeling like it might just be a tad icky out, I think of YOU!!! And I get my booty out there and run... thankful that it is a whopping 50 degrees and the rain is just wet and not little frozen pellets. And last night when I was rounding the final bend in my timed mile route, I was suddenly treated to "Shoop" and thought of you in the frozen Minnesota tundra, alone in the ditches with Salt n' Pepa, and I dug down a little deeper... So glad you didn't freeze to death! We NEED you!

Meh- organized blog writing is overrated- I always amaze myself at the crap I put out there and meanwhile call myself an English major :)

Hey good week to me! A treadmill upgrade would entice me on it more often... But I don't really like my current one all that much. Thankfully I don't have to deal with a lot of ice/snow - just some chilly temps. I hear you on the time excuse!! I am soo pissed at myself for not making more time... I know I can do better but yet I still cop out. I'm lame :(
